From the studies I've read, a 2-3% response is considered really good if you are using postcards or direct mail.  Does that make this type of adverting effective enough to even both with?

Your assessment is roughly correct, although in reality the bigget deciding factor will be the quality of the database to whom you distribute your postcards/leaflets.

If you have a niche, and your postcard is tuned into that niche you can quadruple that percentage.

If you are just cold delivering, you'll be fortunate to see 1% response rate. [assuming you dont have a world leading product/service with no competition Shocked]

Good point.  If there is an existing client base to work from, you'll typically get a better response from a mailing that you would from a blind mailing.  Your 1% response rate makes me wonder why people even use this method since the return is so small.

I would say that ratio is right. My friend and I handed out flyers for her dog walking company and she got a few clients for the 1000 we passed out, BUT those clients have led to referrals. The business has grown to be full time for her so it was worth the time to initially hand stuff out.

If that is the ratio then I think that I wouldn’t want to use it.  It is too low.  I believe that I would be better if I would just use an online promotion for my products.
