One must be very careful in gaining customers for your business. Last week, i went to meet a doctor. After my appointment got over, he told me to meet his wife to speak about a business opportunity and to my surprise it was a networking business. I was so much irritated there and decided not to go back to that doctor again. I felt that it was not the right place and right time to speak about their side business. So create opportunity so that you can project yourself in an acceptable manner to your clients and do not force them in any way.
I think that you are absolutely right about the unappropriated methods of advertising the business for clients. Sorry but there are many companies on the market who try to use unprofessional and irritable methods for the purpose of advertisement. I can see the only solution for such problem is to use professionals for the advertising.
